I picked this and Gorgon Child (they didn't have Firedance) up in a used book store a couple days ago. I actually read all the books in the series years ago and since I've been using some of what Steven talks about in my writing, I thought I'd reread them.
I have to admit, I was worried they wouldn't hold up to my memory of them. Well, the worry was completely unfounded. I'm so glad that I'm reading these again. I know it doesn't really benefit Steven any since they're out of print, but you should pick up a copy of all three. Man these books move. The books read more like thrillers than classic sf. Nothing wrong with sf it makes up about half my reading material, just most aren't quite this good.
I think Steven has actually been writing thrillers for years and so Casanegra really isn't a huge change for him. Maybe now he'll get the wider recognition he deserves. Anyway, just wanted to point out some fantastic books to everyone and thank El Maestro for the fantastic read. These books got me through a rough time back in the day and I'm grateful.
