This is great. Thanks for helping each other! I notice that when I eat other than on an IF pattern (happend around Father's Day) my weight jumped back up FAST. Looked "bulky" but very muscular in the mirror. Then when I began IF again, the weight seemed to peel back off about 60% as fast as it went on. Interesting.

My guess is that the temporary bulk was fatty--the body grabbing calories and storing them against a famine.

Seem to have run into a bit of a wall here on week 8. My weight is hovering right around the 190 lbs mark. Some days just over, some days just under. Three possibilities that I can imagine.
1) I've picked up some sort of cold, which means I'm taking things easy to let myself recover. So no major exercise at the moment. I'm not sure I can get proper breath control while all stuffed up in the head anyways, though maybe by the weekend it will have cleared up.
2) Wife has been away, so I've been relying on take out more than proper food. Though I'm trying to avoid the generic burger joints, it's still fast food and not as good of a mix of fruit/veg to other food sources as I should be eating.
3) Could just be a normal wall, that I have to be patient with, and it could just be a coincedence of timing that I also happen to have come down with something.
I'm still sticking by the plan. For me, it makes the most sense to just move on. Kind of like driving, you can't spend you're whole trip watching the spedometer. You have to keep your eyes on the road, and only take occasional glances on your speed, or you'll get obsessed with the speed, and forget about the journey itself.

I've got a nasty sinus infection, and the doctor recommended I take some rather hard-core antibiotics, these will upset my stomach and I need to take them with food four times a day so I'm going to be going off of IF for the next ten days. The longest I've gone off IF for was about four days, five max, so I'm curious what it will be like to go for such a long stretch. What's the maximum people have gone off IF for?

four days around father's day. Gained about three pounds, which dropped back off very quickly when I returned to the plan.

Week 10. 24.2 lbs so far. Not bad. I find it interesting that in the beginning, I was able to jump in with no problem, and virtually no hunger pangs.
The longer I've been on the system, the more I have noticed hunger pangs. Nothing uncontrollable, or debilitating, just noticable. Kind of odd.

there might be many reasons for this. I tend to wonder about the emotional ones first. In other words, IF you have an emotional reason for keeping weight on, your subconscious will react more violently the more effective the program is. In other words, if might have been laughing at you at first...but now it knows you're serious, and will really re-shape your body. Panic! ## On the other hand, you might want to look more closely at the quality of food you're eating on Feast days, to be certain you are getting all your nutrients.

I have to back Steve up on the Nutrient angle. - I'm being careful AND adding in a multivitamin. - I want to free my body to be what it wants to be, not force it to completely consume itself. -=- Hmm, Will have to think on that one.

A multivitamn is something I think I should add to the list. I've never really taken vitamins though, and don't know enough at this point to be more considered in what I would take. Probably just a standard one from the drug store for now. I eat okay in terms of variety. Sure, there are days when I'm eating worse (a touch of fast food here and there) but actually since I've started the plan, I would say my dinners are more careful. Actually lunch for me was more often in the burger and fries camp. Dinners we tend to go for healthier. But I certainly cannot assume that every day I'm hitting every nutrient out there, so its worth supplementing to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Start with a standard, general vitamin. And then look around, become an educated consumer. When possible, use liquid or powder (capsule) forms of vitamins, because they are more readily absorbed. But by FAR, good healthy fresh food is the way to go. Vary the colors of your vegetables and fruits. Have fun!

This is a report on my own first five weeks or so of IF. I began on June 13, and have been fasting Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and eating the other four days each week. I have had trouble with something Steve mentioned, not eating enough on feast days, and then being overwhelmingly hungry the next day. I have "solved" this by forcing myself to eat more than I want on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I decided that I was not willing to skip my fat-soluble supplements (vitamins A, D, E, along with fish oil and co-enzyme Q-10) on fast days. Thus, I drink a few sips of heavy cream in the morning and take these, but these are my only calories for the day.
I have not lost weight; my weight is stable at 200 pounds and has been since the spring of 2001. I dropped from about 225 to 200 between November 2000 and April 2001, using a low carbohydrate diet, which I still follow.
My mind is definitely sharper on fasting days, so much so that I have wondered whether I might be eating something that was making my mind fuzzy via some sort of allergic effect. More on this if I figure anything out.
I shall have a challenging teaching schedule in the fall, beginning at 9 am and finishing at 9 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. I am not sure how my energy level will hold out for this on fasting days. I may take an afternoon nap, or possibly switch my fasting days for the semester.
I still have a suspicion that fasting for two days and then eating for two days is probably a better pattern for my particular metabolism, but I am not going to try it just yet.

My current intuition (not facts) is that the majority of fat-soluble supplements can be skipped on fasting days... If I'm living off of my fat, then those fat-sol. items are in there. - I'm looking for research to back this up, but have not landed anything about how many fat-sol. vites are stored in fat for later. Anyone have an idea?

Truth is that my own intuition suggests that, so long as the overall nutrient levels are preserved, you could skip everything for one day, every other day. I'm guessing that our bodies just aren't that fragile, when treated properly.
