Mr.Barnes, Time and again I've seen you bring up the necessity of a warrior/protective role to family/society and how this affects and interacts with gender roles. This Norwescon a close friend of mine will be one of the female combat veterans on the panel Women Behind the Gun: Fact versus Fiction. It's at 4pm Saturday afternoon. It's an experimental panel, they will be sharing their personal experiences with real-life female military psyche and how it differs both from the male experience and from the fantasy represented in so much science fiction. My friend's own voice is particularly valuable because she was one of the few female soldiers who participated in combat over a decade ago during Desert Storm. The V.A. has an eye on her progression (recovering from combat trauma and reintegrating into society) in the hopes of finding a template for the female soldiers now coming home from Iraq, soldiers finding themselves unhelped by programs designed for men. They are hoping for a good attendance from active authors, and I really do think they are offering a rare opportunity.
Thanks always.
