Steve,
I know this is Scott's area of expertise. If you or he could answer just a few of my questions, I would appreciate it.
My son wants to gain weight and I want to lose weight. He uses my 20lbs weights to do his arm workouts and other exercises. I use the 5 - 10lbs weights and struggle with the 15lbs weight. I was thinking about purchasing the 18 lbs kettlebell to start. Do you think this is a good weight to start at for us both?
Much Success Stormy

Here's what I would suggest: purchase the "From Russia With Tough Love" video, and watch it. Then, using an adjustable dumbbell, carefully mimic some of the motions, using say 18 pounds. My guess is that your son will outgrow the 18 pretty quickly, but I don't know. KB exercises are whole-body training, and develop a quality called "strength endurance" tht is not only terrific for fitness and fat burning, but for sports performance. And yes, there is a real difference between kettlebells and dumbbells. Once you look at the video, you might decide to get the 24 pound KB. Using that for swings will torch fat from your body, believe me. But the same weight used carefully in other exercises will build muscle for your son. Another choice is to take a look at Matt Furey's combat conditioning book (www.mattfurey.com) which has a very, very fine approach to body-weight exercise. Of course, I recommend you check out Coach Sonnon's Be Breathed tape, as it is the doorway to a deeper understanding of how this all works. Yeah, I cover some of the same things on the FIVE MINUTE MIRACLE, but I have zero problem with recommending the source, Stormy.

Steve,
I had a session with a RKC trainer Marty this weekend. It was great!!!!!
My hubby came and loved the kettlebells too. Santa is bringing everyone a kettlebell for Christmas. I am having another session with a RKC trainer Lisa (No Fear Fitness) just before Christmas. The workouts are great and they tire you out.
Thanks again for suggesting this, Stormy

Stormy--
I absolutely honor you for taking a step into a new world. GREAT. Kettlebells are the most efficient workout tool I've ever seen or heart of. Practice them with your eye to SAFETY, and they will take you to any goal you have!
