Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending Coach Sonnon's latest seminar, dealing with what he calls "Softwork." I would describe it as an American approach to energy-sensitive martial arts, combining a deep practicality with an insistence upon intuition and instinct. Two and a half grueling days later, I can report that Scott has accomplished something remarkable: a means to give even an average person, with minimal martial arts training, an experience of mastery. No doubt about it, the emotional/spiritual/intellectual/physical space opened up in this workshop is the same territory walked by the greatest martial arts and movement masters the world has ever seen. The only difference, I reckon, is the consistency with which they can access it. Valuable to any martial artist, movement technician, athlete or citizen concerned with optimal mental and physical performance, the "Softwork" seminar (find more information at http://www.Rmax.tv) is one hell of a weekend. I wouldn't have missed it for gold.

Hi, Steve , met you at the Softwork seminar thanks for the energy , an good conversation . Its a pity we did not have the chance to work togeather . Drop me a line if your ever think of visiting Trinidad I have never written anything , but meeting has rekindled a sleeping spark .

Ever since you mentioned this seminar on here, I've been hitting Coach Sonnon's online magazine looking up information on Softwork. Frankly, it sounds completely fascinating. Can you give any examples of some of the drills he's come up with to help reduce the fear-reactivity he talks about? And how much improvement have you noticed on the practical applications of the martial arts you've studied?
Like I said, I'm fascinated by Coach Sonnon's approach to health and fitness, and the martial arts aspect of his teachings are just a beautiful icing to a wonderful cake! ;D

Body-Flow is filled with them. These are yoga/breakdancing-like movement drills that reveal pockets of tension in the body. Partner drills, some using rubber knives, also "push your buttons." Learning to breathe through the sticking points is just flat excellent. With reduced fear, it is easier to see what is happening while sparring. Fear and perception compete for the same mental channels. With less of the one you get more of the other.
