Hey Steve
An interesting thing happened to me today whilst I was exercising - of all the people I know if anyone can explain it you can!
Basically I swim about 3 times a week - anywhere between 1000 and 1200 metres a time (50 to 54 laps). I also swim with an underwater MP3 player playing rock music to help keep me going when it gets boring.
Anyway today I went for a swim as normal. Everything was as it usually is until about lap 38/40 (cant be more precise). The best way I can describe it is this: suddenly it felt like my body was doing the swimming and I was kind of detached from the experience. I've got a couple of kinks in my stroke which I've half heartedly tried to get rid of but never really have - and suddenly it felt like they were gone and that my body was really pulling through the water. At the end of each lap when it came to turn it was like my body was delivering me to the end of the pool with a hell lot more momentum than I usually have! This went on for about 10 laps or so - during this period I was thinking about a project I'm working on and it was kind of like i was deep thinking whilst my body was doing the exercising.
Anyway after about 10 lengths or so of this (whatever it was) the 'spell' was broken and I reverted to my more normal crappy stroke which didnt feel as smooth or as fast.
My questions are:
1) Any ideas on what the hell happened?
2) If so, how can I do it again and make it last for longer than 10 lengths?
3) Is this something that could be taken to other arenas - I'm thinking specifically of playing music.
Be REAL interested in your answers!
Cheers from London
