From Barbara Oakley's _Evil Genes: Why Rome Fell, Hitler Rose, Enron Failed, and My Sister Stole My Mother’s Boyfriend._ pg 142. “Interesting, one study of neurotransmitter activity has found that ritual religious fasting enhances the transmission of serotonin between neurons, thus perhaps helping to induce a spiritual state.”
Has anyone experienced this with IF?

I've certainly experienced more serene states (at times) but also a bit of irritability. It is perfectly reasonable for materialists to ascribe spiritual states to "mere" shifts in brain chemistry. That's one perspective. Another way to look at it is that as you free yourself from attachments, you perceive reality with fewer desire and fear filters, allowing greater union with the divine. There are probably other perspectives as well...and probably, all are different views of the same mountain.
