Hi Steven,
just wondering what your thoughts are on bridging? This exercise seems very controversial but i feel if practised correctly has great benefits. As a yoga teacher, what do you think of this exercise?
kind regards, Michael

The yoga "bridge" is excellent for health, and has preparatory postures making the approach attainable for nearly everyone. The wrestling "bridge" on the other hand, is a more severe movement, one I've seen promoted only by a single fitness instructor. For someone fit and flexible, it is probably fine, but I see potential for damage when practised by those without good balance, or weight issues, or poor kinesthetic sense. If you're working with a hands-on coach, well, enjoy. If you're generally quite fit and nimble, same advice. But the wrestling bridge isn't a fitness technique (primarily). According to my sources, it was devised as a technique by which grapplers can throw off their opponents. This doesn't preclude it from being useful and healthful, but I would be careful about this one. Most of the same benifits can be attained without the risk with the yogic alternative.
