I think there are mood swings, yes...especially at the beginning. My wife says she thinks she noted a few grouchy moments. That seems to have evened out, however.

Nicki's mood swings haven't really been noticable. It's allergy season, so she's sniffling...I'm watching carefully to see if the sniffles become cold-like symptoms, which I read as a mild breakdown of the immune system. So far so good, but I'm hovering...

Mild concern about my immune system during int.fast. is why I'm planning on keeping Cordyceps mushroom capsules (aloha medicinals) around during my first month. - Hope she feels better soon! A Cordyceps sinensis that has been shown to have a range of effects including antioxidation, immunopotentiation, anti-tumorigenesis, anti-inflammation, and stimulation of testosterone biosynthesis . www.cmjournal.org/content/2/1/3I think it will also help me moderate hunger-pangs.

Not sure if this is yummy or yack-worthy, but dilute vinegar in water is a traditional fasting drink. Recent studies have shown that such a drink increase the bodies ability to use the food it already has on board, (including body fat) more readily. It also can give a feeling of satiety (not hungry) once the body step up the use of on board body fat. The recent science: www.nature.com/ejcn/journal/v59/n9/full/1602197a.html================================ Can anyone tell me more about this? Care to try it? - I'll be trying it with both Organic Apple Cider Vinegar AND Balsamic Vinegar. Adam

I have heard of this effect of vinegar before. My question is, does it erode teeth? As I get older, I realize that my teeth, healthy and strong as they are, are not going to last forever.

Quick update: - My summer run at intermittent fasting is going great. - I used the fast-5 pattern for a week and a half for acclimatizing my body, and then moved to fullday fasting on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. - I have been keeping a detailed log, and have convinced 3 others in my town to do this along with me and collect data and impressions. - I have used the lab facilities at work to collect bodyscan data for myself and one female training partner. - SO far, so great~!

Fabulous. Please note my comments about I.F. with a sedentary lifestyle. I suspect that the positive benefits of I.F. result from throwing you into a Hunter-Gatherer mode. If you are neither hunting nor gathering, on the other hand, I think the body will go into an "energy sparing" mode and slow down, conserving calories. If you are trying to lose weight, this will lead to frustration--and decreasing caloric intake on "feasting" days. This will lead to nutritional deficiency, fatigue, and illness. "Another failed diet" you say, as you go back to old habits and watch the calories pile back on.
Beware. Our egos are very, very tricky, and resist change. You must either have an active lifestyle, or exercise regularly to make this work.

Oh yes, I can already back this up.
On whole day-fast days, i have found it easier to fast if I exercise around noontime. - I usually have about 20 min of fairly intense weightlifting followed by running against resistance for half an hour. - If I don't exercise, hunger hits me extra hard around 7-8pm.
Your hunger may Vary, Adam

OK, I have many finer (read this as: more accurate) metrics that give me all sorts of data, both composition and metabolic.
BUT...
My primary simple (vanity) measurement is my waist size. When I started this calendar year, I kept bouncing between pants in the 40-42 range. This morning, I discovered that some Size 36 pants were loose on me, had to dig them out of the closet to do so.
My exercise components are: Weightlifting, running on an Precor elliptical, and ki-aikido practice. I make sure to exercise on both fasting and feasting days. -=- This is good to know because my Mass is stuck at about 205 lbs. It is my composition that is changing incredibly fast. This intermittent fasting is powerful, must continue to be careful. - I have not been comfortable in size 36 since the Fall of the Computer Empire. (About 4-5 years ago) - Must start saving money for shopping for clothes this fall.

Adam has in the last 2 months:
* Lost 12 lbs of mass. approx 2 lbs ~ 1kg of lean and 10lbs ~ 5kg of fat.
* Moved from having a total body fat of 37% DOWN to 34%
* Dropped from having a World Heath Org.-BMI of 32.2 DOWN to 30.2 (30 is the dividing line between overweight and obese - almost there!)
I'm losing Lean:fat at a ratio of 1:5. That is amazing! ------------------------- Intermittent fasting is here to stay in my life, in one form or another. I'll be moving to an the fast-5 form while on vacation in NYC.

Fabulous! Once you get used to eating this way, it's fun to torment friends by pigging out in front of them. They wonder what the hell your secret is!

Fatloss:leanloss ratios 5.1:1 - Adam's first 2 months of ADF Int. fasting (patterned eating of the same amount of Kcal., exercise most days)
3.24:1 - laparoscopic gastric bypass (surgical option)
3:1 - human average via changing diet and exercise ratios ( the eat less, exercise more classic) -=- Can anyone help me find other published fatloss:leanloss ratios?

For what it's worth; I've gone off IF. I think I'll go back on it in a couple of months, but I just don't think it's right for me right now.
